Private number plates dealer Peter Swatton who traded as Cherished Marks or Cherished Registration Marks was jailed for 5 years after being found guilty of twenty counts of fraud and four counts of deception.
The scam was to take money from customers who thought they were purchasing private number plates then fail to deliver the goods. This deception highlights the importance of buying and selling private number plates through bonified dealers. Most established cherished number plate dealers are members of either the Cherished Number Dealers Association or Members of the Institute of Registration Agents and Dealers MIRAD.
The CNDA do have a reconciliation service and are affiliate to the Retail Motor Industry Federation for added weight.
